Basketball Athlete Online Training
Hakeem’s Acceleration Training Story
Primary sport: Basketball
Age: 15 yrs
Began Acceleration training at: 13 yrs (2013)

Goal:
Our training goal with Hakeem is to continue to improve his running technique and vertical jump.
He says his goal is.. ‘To build strength and agility, however, to mostly stay injury free as I am on the court training or playing a lot.’
His Performance Coach Dylan says, “Our training goal with Hakeem was to improve his vertical jump and speed (acceleration) for basketball.
Lately, he has been working on developing lower body specific strength and power so he can peak for state champs. This has been a focus with the implementation of plyometrics following a sustained volume accumulation phase.”
Areas of Improvement:
Hakeem needed improvements in his basketball performance, including his quickness on the court, core stability to be stronger on defence, and injury reduction from common basketball injuries.
Results:
Hakeem has been online training for 2 years now 3-4 days per week significantly improving his sprint times, vertical jump, and agility times.
His Club Team, The Hornets easily won their final with a result of 119 – 60.
He made and played on the Logan Division 1 Rep team. They didn’t make it to the final but Hakeem had a very good season being a massive asset to his team. He was the biggest, strongest and fittest member who would often play full representative games. This is quite uncommon due to the level of play and athletes at the representative level.
What Hakeem had to say:
“After 6 months, I grew in confidence in and around the gym and opted to transition over to online training to make it feasible to train with guidance a few times a week at a gym just 500 metres down the road.
The online Acceleration performance programs I have done met my expectations. My Acceleration Coach, Dylan, is good at communicating to me what he expects each week over the course of the program. Our monthly check-ups help me keep on track and I an keep him informed with what I am planning tournament wise, or whyI am falling behind or finding the program too easy.” – Hazeem, 2024
